Social engineering has been around for a long time; Sneaking up on you while you try to go about your day are all those malicious threads who seek to use you or your information for whatever purpose.

We start this topic today to talk about all types of threats and challenges we face today in the cyber aspect of things.

Have you ever check your spam folder? If you did you might have found many spammy emails trying to scam you into sending them money or simply gain details of your personal information. It still exists and developing.

The biggest concern for the 2020’s and on is mobile security, particularly android systems. Including messenger, WhatsApp or any kind of tool which can provide a fake profile. Twitter recently had a surge in fake female profiles trying to follow you and get you interested in their profile due to their explicit content. It relates to another subject which we will be mentioning such as cyberbullying in all types of ages and levels. Especially small businesses which can be affected by cyberbullies and trolls, there is no one really to help you beside yourself.

Waterloo region should be investing in an infrastructure that can intercept and track and eventually prosecute potential cases and make sure the peace online remains intact. The government also should use external specialists to provide further expertise on the matter, like inviting other online-security experienced countries to consult and help develop the matter. Actually, this is something that probably does exist (no conspiracy please!) however do remember that anyone can be affected by cyberbullying whether it’s personal or business.

I personally hope to cover this topic more often! See you soon! If I make it of course.

“If it’s safer offline where you live in the world, then it’s a lot more dangerous online; as our world becomes more software oriented how can we switch our offline defense line safety net to online. Without scaring the public.” – Eli Abbasov
